A DEGREE AND DETERMINATION
"Don’t waste time because in essence time is wasting you"
-John Griffin III
After years of working dead end jobs John was faced with the reality that there must be more to life than just existing. As a homeless single father John chose to pursue his education. At 39 John attended Modesto Junior College where he obtained an AA Degree in General Studies. John went on to complete his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership from Brandman University.
John’s journey through education was filed with set backs, heart aches, and pain. However, it was from pain that John catapulted his way through the educational systems of higher learning and using his drive, perseverance, and true grit to transcend any barrier that got in his way. John also earned a Graduate Excutive Certificate in Public and Non Profit Leadership.
John’s message for those that are seeking success is the understaning of hard work, sacrifice, and looking for the YES when there is a thousand no’s. Understand that a degree is the key into
a carreer. However, what you do once you get in the career is what counts. In the words of C.T Fletcher “degrees don’t win titles…hard work wins titles!”

John Griffin will share some of the challenges that he faced in his life and the steps that it took to get where he is now.
In his presentation John talks about his experiences in dealing with “People Putdowns” in the form of racism. As a child living in predominantly white upper middle class neighborhoods John dealt with the harsh realities of brutal assaults and the relentless barrage of racial name calling. However, John also explains how he overcame these racially charged obstacles.
He also talks about living in “Negative Environments”. These environments consisted of living through poverty, hunger, drug abuse, abuse, and a dysfunctional family. From these experiences John learned a valuable life skill. Be careful of the company that you keep because the ones you hang around with can get you caught up in a situation that you may not be able to get out of. Be careful of the decisions that you make in life because some decisions have negative consequences.
John will also discuss the concept of “Keep it pushing”. He will share how he transformed his mindset from self-sabotaging thoughts to a much deeper understanding of ones self-worth. John remembers when he was in college and stumbled upon a motivational speaker that talked about being comfortable with being uncomfortable. From this pivotal revelation John was able to comprehend the importance of perseverance, integrity, overcoming fear, finishing what you started and trusting in God.
John also hosts workshops in a more in-depth understanding of dealing with “People Put Downs, Negative Environments, and the concept of Keep it Pushing”.
When going after your goal you must seek the target, find the target, learn the target, and take out the target. You must look for the YES when there’s a thousand NO’S.
